Shay Hawkins, the leader of the Opportunity Funds Association, is running for Congress. Hawkins announced that he will seek the Republican nomination in Ohio’s reconfigured 13th district.

Hawkins, who grew up near Cleveland, previously served as a tax and trade policy aide to Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina. Senator Scott was one of the primary champions of Opportunity Zone legislation in the Senate, along with Democrat Cory Booker.

Hawkins has indicated that he would work with Senator Scott and others in Washington to extend the timeframe of the OZ program while also adding in transparency and reporting requirements.
