Opportunity Zone Project

Park East Development Sites

Milwaukee, WI

Project Summary

Milwaukee is one of very few cities in the country to demolish a freeway to connect neighborhoods and open valuable land for development.  The land was once the Park East Freeway, a mile-long spur that was built as part of a larger plan to encircle the downtown business district with expressways. After demolition of the elevated freeway spur in 1999, it was replaced with an at-grade, six-lane boulevard – McKinley Boulevard — that is fully connected with the existing and newly re-created street grid. Currently the Milwaukee Bucks are constructing a new $524 million arena, 1,400 car parking garage, new practice facility and medical office. This leaves more than 6+ acres for additional mixed use development.  http://parkeastmke.com/
